The Biography

Once Lord Vishnu went to meet Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati at Mount Kailash along with Goddess Laxmi. Lord Vishnu also took food with him which he gave to Shiva and Parvati to eat. When Shiva and Parvati started eating that food, some part of the food fell on the ground from the plate.

Maa Matangi was born from those leftovers of food. That is why the Matangi form of Matarani is always offered leftovers. Due to being born from leftovers, one of her names was also Uchchhisht Matangini, which means the one who is offered leftover food or leftovers. When Goddess Parvati was offered their leftovers by the Chandal women, then all the gods and the ghosts of Lord Shiva started opposing it, but seeing the devotion of the Chandaliyas, Goddess Parvati took the form of Matangi and ate the leftovers offered by them.

Goddess Matangi was the daughter of Matang Rishi, the guru of Hanumanji and Shabari. The girl who was born to Matang Rishi with the blessings of Goddess Durga was Matangi Devi. This goddess is the goddess of the tribals of India. Tara and Matang Devi, one of the ten Mahavidyas, are also worshipped in Buddhism. In Buddhism, Matangi is called Matagiri.

This power of Shiva fascinates the demons and gives desired results to the seekers. People worship her to make their family life better. Her birth anniversary falls on Akshaya Tritiya i.e. Tritiya of Vaishakh Shukla.
